Rudram Namaka Chamaka

Shri Rudram Namaka Chamaka

The Shri Rudram is one of the most important texts of Shiva literature. It occurs in the ancient Yajur Veda, and contains the Namaka and Chamaka which are hymns of praise of Rudra. The Namaka and Chamaka grant Rudra’s blessings in all areas of life.

Note, Rudra is Shiva, they are the same, and the Shri Rudram contains the earliest occurrence of the mantra “OM Namaḥ Shivāya”.

You can derive great benefit just by listening to the recited text of the Shri Rudram. Here is an excellent rendition from Rajshri Soul’s channel:

If you are unable to stream this video, then download the audio-only MP3 file: Shri Rudram Namaka Chamaka.

It takes about 37 minutes to listen to this. If you have the time you can listen sitting down with an easy focus on the sounds of Vedic Sanskrit. Otherwise, listen to it as desired as you go about your daily activities.

As a major benefit, Shri Rudram offers protection from death, because it contains the famous MahaMrityunjaya Mantra. Also, the final verse of the Namaka specifically requests Rudra to protect oneself from death (“mṛityur me pāhi”).

The Shri Rudram contains numerous benefits in its verses, such as for health, strength, wealth, courage, and welfare. Besides these benefits for the individual, the Shri Rudram yields the blessings of Shiva for the entire tribe, and thus its recitation is an important means to develop family and community.

In the future we will provide a good translation of the Shri Rudram, but just know that you derive the full benefits without understanding the words, merely by hearing the Vedic Sanskrit recitation.

Namo Bhagavate Rudrāya!
